The story of success
Some time in March
ICE HOCKEY
Well, we had a goalie that never skated before, unprofessional equipment and a strong opponent. Luckily the scores for ice hockey were canceled and we went undefeated into the Octathon weekend.
Euros - ADP 0:8
MVP: Ambrogio (for having the guts to be the goalie)
Patriots day weekend - Day 1
SOFTBALL (pictures!)
Single, double play, error, bases ...what ? While half of the team had no clue about softball and some never held a bat before, the other half knew the game. Extensive coaching (= yelling at the bases) and thanks to our great infield we not only won, but scored the maximum score.
Euros - KSB 10:7
MVP: Robert (for giving up his body), Dave (great coaching)
ULTIMATE FRISBEE
We just had the perfect weather for a nice game of Frisbee, heavy wind and lots of rain. So all our imperfect technique didn't matter anymore and with strength and endurance we again won and again scored the maximum score.
Euros - TPP 11:2
MVP: Torkel (He runs and runs and runs...)
Patriots day weekend - Day 2
FOOTBALL (pictures!)
The learning curve was just amazing. Robert learned that his sack in the opponents endzone is called a safety, and our linesmen for sure all know now what offside and holding is. We also learned how important (or not) it is to do exactly what was discussed in the huddle. After leading 9:0 we fell behind 9:12 and with only 35 seconds left in the game we got the ball back. Great passing brought us to the endzone with 5(!) seconds to go. Dave passes to Adam - Adam catches it - TOUCHDOWN!
Euros - New House 15:12
MVP: Dave and Adam - the QB's
VOLLEYBALL
Where were all the strong, tall and talented Europeans ?? Somehow we were not as motivated as we should have been and definitely not as much as the opponent, and we ended the day with a clear defeat.
Euros-ZBT 9:15, 6:15
MVP: none
Patriots day weekend - Day 3
WATERPOLO (pictures!)
Waterpolo is, when you while trying not to drown, you actually have to catch and pass a ball. Well, no big deal for players like James T., Thomas, and Attila and thanks to them we easily won this one with the maximum score. Melanie and James M. were just happy not to drown!
Euros-PBE 8:0
MVP: James T (really great coaching), Thomas (big and strong), Peter (goalie)
SOCCER
Soccer was just a great disappointment. No, no, not because we played so bad, but because the opponent was so weak. With this team we would have beaten any team in the league, so we were looking forward to a tough match. Instead we were leading 4:0 after 15 minutes and we then slowed down to spare some energy for the last game.
Euros-EC 7:0
BASKETBALL
Before the game started we knew that if we would win with the maximum score it was very likely that we would win the whole Octathon. Therefore the goal was to score the maximum 50 points. We approached the first half rather carefully and ONLY led 18:2. We then changed our strategy to letting the other team play so that we would get the ball back faster. Although we had some problems with this tactic we managed to score 48 points. Later we learned that in the overall score the second was only 21 points behind behind!
Euros-TXI 48:7
MVP: Pat (for trying really hard NOT to defend)
